Choosing a study
How much time do you have?
Each type of Precept study is graded from level 1 (‘no homework’) to level 5 (approx 5 hours / week) depending on the amount of weekly homework required when used in a class setting.
All studies can also be used for individual study at a pace that suits you.
Here’s a quick guide of the levels for each type of study:
Study Levels
At Level 1 you have the 40-Minute studies that require ‘no homework’ when used in a class setting.
Then at the other end you have the level 5 - Precept Upon Precept studies requiring 5 hours of weekly homework.
The hours of weekly homework is based on a class meeting weekly. If a class meets fortnightly or monthly then the hours of weekly homework would be less.
For example, if a Precept Upon Precept class meets monthly then the hours of weekly homework would be 1.25 hrs or 2.5 hrs if meeting fortnightly.

After deciding the level of study that is right for you then it's a question of whether you want to study a Bible book or if you would prefer a topical based study. We also offer study Bibles and resources to aid you in your study.

Study of a Bible book

Discover 4 Yourself (Children)
These kid-friendly, character-driven stories help children learn the basics of the Precept Bible Study Method as they discover God’s Word for themselves. With games, puzzles, and activities, these books are great for kids of all learning styles.
Each lesson in the study takes around 2-3 hours to do and the number of lessons varies between studies.

New Inductive Series (Level 2)
These 13-week studies each cover one or more books of the Bible and offer an excellent introduction to the Precept Bible Study Method.
With guided questions and around 15-20 minutes of daily homework these books are ideal for personal study, one-on-one mentoring, small groups, and family devotions. Every book of the Bible is represented in the New Inductive Study Series.

Flexible Inductive Series (Level 3)
These flexible studies include application-rich questions for all students and additional questions and activities (“one step further,” “digging deeper”) to take your study even deeper.
These studies are perfect for groups with mixed levels of Bible study experience or varying amounts of homework time.

In & Out Series (Level 4)
These streamlined studies offer the same essential depth as Level 5 (Precept Upon Precept) with fewer weekly homework hours. Each study includes the complete text of the book(s) being studied, relevant maps, charts, and timelines, and 2-3 hours of homework per week - for a class meeting weekly.
When used in a class setting these studies are best led by a trained Precept Leader. Classes studying In & Out can include students using the corresponding Precept Upon Precept study.

Precept Upon Precept (Level 5)
Precept’s most in-depth studies. Each study includes the complete text of the book(s) being studied, relevant maps, charts, and timelines, and approximately 5 hours of homework per week -for a class meeting weekly.
When used in a class setting these studies are best led by a trained Precept Leader.
Classes studying Precept Upon Precept can include students using the corresponding In & Out study.

Lightning Studies (Level 1)
Great introductory studies for young people designed to help them discover the truth of God’s Word for themselves.

40 Minute Studies (Level 1)
These easy-to-lead, no-homework studies are great for groups with limited time or who are new to the Precept Bible Study Method. No prior experience, training, or prep needed!
All studies are topical and include six lessons which can be completed in approximately 40 minutes in a weekly group discussion.
Each book includes the text of the Scripture being studied, guided leader questions, and Wrap It Up™ sections to summarize the key points of the lesson.

LORD series (Level 2)
These topical studies from Kay Arthur offer a personal, heart-to-heart approach to Bible study based on the Precept Bible Study Method.
Each study includes the text of the Scripture being studied, discussion questions, and a few minutes of daily homework making them ideal for personal study, one-on-one mentoring, and small groups.

New Inductive Study Bible
Every feature of the New Inductive Study Bible is designed to help you gain a more intimate understanding of God and His Word.
